Can I finish cooking baked potatoes in the microwave?

Kitty: Can I finish cooking baked potatoes in the microwave?
The steaks are done but the baked potatoes aren’t. Can we put them in saran wrap and put them in the microwave? They’ve been cooking for about 30 minutes at 400 degrees. Thanks!!

Yes, you can. Start with 5 minutes.

take em out, punch a whole in them with a knife, put them in the microwave for 4 mins. pull em out check em and if still not done put them back in for another 4 min. don’t cover them with anything, just poke a hole in them.

Yes, but leave the saran wrap off!!!!!

Microwaving of course doesn’t make the best baked potato as it steams them more than anything and putting saran wrap will only increase the steam!!!!
I’ve made potatoes in the micro in a pinch, starting with raw, all you do is give them a poke with a fork, but them at whatever power your micro is set for, I open the micro up a couple times throughout the process to let the steam out and let the potatoes do some cooking on their own.

Answer by triciawin87
yes, just make sure you poke a few holes in the potato with a fork.

You can do whatever you want, Miss Kitty! Forget the saran wrap, just pierce with a fork and place in microwave for a couple of minutes at full power. Squeeze to see when done.

You bet. I don’t recommend cooking anything in plastics /saran wrap in the microwave.. there’s research that this may cause considerable carcinogens.
Just put the potatoes on a plate or in a bowl and make sure that there are some perforations/slicemark(s) (top one will be enough) on the potatoes to let out excess pressure.
I cook mine completely in the microwave.. much quicker that the oven.. In my small micro, a small potato cooks at 6-8 min high I think.

Stab them a couple times with a fork, then wrap in a damp paper towel. Microwave for a few minutes at a time till they finish cooking.
