You may be thinking of feng shui which is not a Buddhist tradition (see https://www.amfengshui.com/faq.htm ).

The only tradition regarding the layout of the home in Buddhism is the location of the shrine. Buddhist shrines are generally located in the higher level of the home (above ground level if possible); usually in a room dedicated whenever possible for meditation; if in a bedroom it is located near the head of the bed (see ).

Naturally, regional traditions have influenced the architecture and layout of Buddhist temples and cities in various countries but they are not, to my understanding, indicative to Buddhism per se.
