Since you have some experience with dancing you will probably be a lot better and progress faster than someone with no experience. Although you can’t relate tap or hip-hop to ballet. Jazz can sometimes relate to ballet. Not always thought. The piourretes(spelled wrong) are turned out appose to turned in when in jazz. I would start stretching everyday and try to get your splits if possible. I have been taking ballet class for 11 years an it is an amazing experience
Learn and memorize ballet terms and the movement associated with them…..oh yeah start stretching and doing toe raises (releves).Answer by ballerinachick92.4jesuschrist
don’t worry! it’ll take you a little while to get back in the groove, but once u do; it’ll be easy. just remember that though you may have experience in other dance forms, those other forms of dance aren’t necessarily good for ballet. as my mom says “ballet is good for everything, but not everything is good for ballet.”
p.s. try memorizing the various positions and terms
Answer by saleishaIf any of your friends take ballet, invite them over and have them teach you the terminology. (I don’t suggest letting them teach you moves because they might be doing it wrong and it’s best if the teacher does that job). Stock up on ballet movies and remember that is a flowing, graceful dance form (complete opposite of hip-hop). Start stretching GENTLY every day and strengthen your ankles!! Also do some foot exercises (roll a can on the floor with the bottoms of your feet and point them – sounds weird but really improves your arch! and stretch them by placing them under a couch or something low to the ground and pointing them so the tops of your feet get stretched – also sounds weird but REALLY improves your arch so much if done consistently.) **Personal note and your decision: Go to a school that only teaches ballet to insure the best possible training and to prevent harmful training and/or injuries.** I would suggest that if you really want to do ballet and are willing to give up other dance to maybe become a ballet teacher in the future. Now that all of that is over, ballet is a fun thing! I know because when I was 11 (I’m 14 now) I got accepted into the School of American Ballet and was totally thrilled (I swear I really got accepted into SAB). Dance from your heart and give it all you’ve got and you’re bound to succeed!!
