Maria: How can I avoid an upset stomach while on holiday in Turkey?
I am from the UK and going to the Gumbet / Bodrum area for a holiday soon. How can I avoid stomach illness. I have been told to not have ice in my drinks as the ice could be from tap water which could make me ill.
Can you give me anymore advice?
Thank you.

WHEN I TRAVELED TO RUSSIA WE ONLY ATE THINGS THAT COULD BE PEELED AND DRANK LOTS OF BOTTLED WATER. IT SEEMS HARD BUT LOTS OF THINGS ARE PEELED BANANAS ORANGES TANGERINES CANTALOUPE MELON ARE JUST A FEW EXAMPLE. I ALSO PACKED MY OWN FOODS SUCH AS GRANOLA BARS PACKAGED CRACKERS PUDDINGS THAT ARE ON SHELVES AND PRE PACKAGED FOODS TART YOU CAN MICROWAVE. AVOID FOODS BOILED IN WAT ER IF YOU DO EAT OUT AND STICK WITH THINGS THAT ARE WELL COOKED SUCH AS MEATS. ALSO REMEMBER THAT DINERS WASH VEGGIES AND FRUIT IN THEIR WATER BEFORE SERVING SO ONLY EAT THOSE THAT ARE COOKED IF YOU MUST . NO SOUPS
AND STOCK WITH DRINKS THAT ARE BOTTLED. IT SOUNDS REALLY HARD BUT IT IS EASY ONCE YOU TRY. WE DID EAT SEVERAL RUSSIAN DINNERS AND WE ALSO TRIED TO FIND MCDONALD’S ETC. GOOD LUCK AND DO NT OVER WORRY WITH A LITTLE PLANNING AND PACKING OF SNACKS YOU WILL BE FINE AND ENJOY YOUR TRIP WE DID
First of all, don’t worry about the water.
You can have ice on your drinks even if it’s tap water, we don’t have a water problem. In Turkey water does not make anybody sick, because Turkey is not India.
Carry in your bag Alka-Seltzers, they are also sold in Turkey. If you have any digestion problem due to over-eating : ), they are the best. Because that’s what some tourists do when they see those delicious mezes. : )
EDIT: Do not even attempt to pack your own food or carry snacks like some “seasoned meat” suggested, that’s just nonsense and will ruin your holiday and it would be a total waste. Turkey is the paradise of fresh and healthy food.
Answer by Totally BluntIn most places tap water is drinkable. So ice from tap water should be OK.
If you want to be on the safe side, you CAN avoid ice, drink only bottled water, wash your fruits and vegetables well, prefer well cooked meals and eat from clean looking restaurants rather than going for the cheapest. I would do the same if I went somewhere I have never went before, including Western countries.
Enjoy your holiday!
Answer by vxDrink bottled or boiled/purified water. Don’t eat ‘mystery meat’ from street vendors, etc. Don’t use icecubes from bars, etc.
Lastly but not least, give worship to the patron saint of stomach bugs in turkey; Saint Tummy Rumblas lol.
Answer by jumpDo as you would do in the UK.
Yes, ice would be tap water, but that is ok.
Some give a pass to salads. This is up to your judgment on the spot.
I had a few vacations on Turkish Mediterranean coast, only stomach upset I got, was related to hangovers.
Answer by SelenaAn uspet stomach in Turkey??? No way, everything is so clean there! I never had a problem there! But in The UK, I am having constantly problems with my digestion! I usually pack a lot of stomach medicine, different varieties for different problems, each time i have to go there!Answer by Keyser S
even though turkey has safe clean water it will be the chemical imbalance of the water that might upset ur system.the water is perfectly clean and safe, but its just a chemical thing ur body would need to get used to,so if u drink alot of UK tap water,ig go for bottled in turkey.Answer by ahanda korama
Avoid Turkish food and Turkish people and you will be fine.
