Poor College Student: Are there any suburban motels near Washington, DC that are within walking distance of a metro station?
My sister and I would like to visit DC sometime in October but unfortunately cannot afford the rates of hotels located within the city itself. I’ve heard that staying in a motel in one of the outlying suburban communities is doable, but we would be entirely reliant on the metro for transport. Are there any motels in the surrounding areas that are truly within walking distance of a metro station (no need to rely on motel shuttle to the station, etc)?

The Americana Hotel, in Crystal City. It’s in Crystal City, Arlington, so I don’t know if it’s “suburban” by your definition of the term.
Check the stops along the Blue and Yellow lines, specifically in Alexandria or Arlington. I know there are a few hotels and motels within walking distance each of the stops south of DC. While they are much cheaper than staying in the city, they still can be quite expensive as any business within walking distance of a metro usually is. Most of the metro stops have cabs waiting to pick people up at nearly all hours during the day, so I would check to see if it would be cheaper to find a place farther away but close enough to take a cab to.
