cokecolossus: Would it be okay to add the person who fired you on Linkedin?
What are some examples of good contacts to add? Most of my friends are mid-level to advanced in their careers but I am still entry-level. Is it natural to feel reluctant to add these friends because you are ashamed because you used to have a good job but right now it says you are a bag boy for example on Linkedin?

I think you just add people you want to be in contact with, not people you don’t want to contact! It’s perfectly natural to worry about what other people will think if you’ve had to take a step back, career wise, but don’t let it get you too down! Be proud of the fact that you were able to get past your pride to take the job in the first place. Some people will actually refuse honest work because of what the job is and they don’t want to downgrade or they worry so much about other people. I say a small paycheck is better than no paycheck, so good for you! I hope you get something even better than the job you lost!
Yes, add everyone you know! The point of sites like that is to make connections, so that if a great opportunity comes up they will remember you for it.
As far as someone who actually fired you, I think it depends on the circumstances of your firing. It doesn’t hurt to at least ask that person to be your friend on the website.
