Will computer industry reach a wall? How will computers look like in the future?

ImAk: Will computer industry reach a wall? How will computers look like in the future?
Will HDD have more capacity and what is the maximum that can be reached? And what would be the largest processor limit? I heard that silicon transistors can’t be lower than 16nm because of electron tunneling. What will happen to a computer industry after that?

There will be more space, and more super computers if you have the right knowledge build one yourself for like 1k of money.

But I’m guessing robots will be made and androids.

i can see a future of all solid state disk drives. it will all be flash memory instead of a spinning disk.

i can see us talkin to computers instead of using keyboards and mice.

processors will use multiple processors in the future (not just 2 or 4 cores, but probly hundreds).

i can see computers worn as headgear and going everywhere normal clothing goes today.

Well theoretically there is no limit.

For example, even if Hard Drives are limited to X amount of Terabytes, we could simply find ways to build smaller drives so more drives could fit in the same physical space. Additionally, we would probably end up building new drive technologies that can store more data in a smaller physical area and with less problems than a traditional drive. For example newer Solid State Drives provide very fast performance and have no moving parts – they are too expensive right now for the average consumer though.

With processors, you can always add more logical processing cores or add multiple microprocessor chips to the motherboard. Many servers and super computers already take advantage of this, and may for example run 32 processors in parallel to provide unsurpassed processing power. Again, new technologies may allow us to develop new processors that are smaller, don’t rely on silicon transistors, use less power and don’t get as hot.

The whole way a computer is designed and function may change in the future.

It is possible we may move to quantum computing, or that our computers will no longer work on a binary system for example but instead use a quadinary system (on, off, mostly on, mostly off).

Right now computers are really dumb, they can only do EXACTLY what we tell them to do and they can’t process data on their own without explicit instructions.

Some advanced computer companies are working on computers that actually simulate the synapse network of the brain, so a computer can be used to interpret large sets of data using simulated “brain power”.

“640K ought to be enough for anybody.” – Bill Gates, 1981

Point being, it’s hard to imagine what we’re capable of creating when it comes to technology.
