Are you leaking any discharge? You may have an infected hair follicle really close to the area..I would go to the doc and get it checked. You never know.

It could be a fungal infection. You, or you doctor, will know for sure after a few days.
Don’t neglect it,though.

There is almost zero chance that it’s cancer (heck, there’s almost zero chance of an 18 yo girl getting cancer, let alone a male).
Assuming it’s not something obvious like you’re wearing too many tight burlap shirts… You may have a mild and somewhat late case of gynecomastia. About 25% of boys experience a bit of this (swelling of one or both breasts) sometime after puberty, though it usually happens a bit earlier than 18. In almost all cases it goes away on its own.
BUT, in a very few cases it’s due to something serious, like a pituitary gland problem, or cancer of the testes. Nobody, not even a doctor, on an online forum can answer this for you. You need to see a doctor about this, just in case.
Usually though they chalk up the cause to “temporary hormone imbalance”, which means “they really don’t know why it happens but it probably isn’t serious.”
One possible cause: men’s bodies do produce a bit of estrogen, some of it through “aromatase”, a process that converts testosterone to estrogen. If you have too much testosterone this is one way your body gets rid of it. (You will also lose your hair early. Lucky you!) So if you’re taking something for body-building that increases your T levels, STOP.
Also, if you are overweight, fat tissue is what does this aromatase thing, so this is yet another reason to shed the excess weight.
A whole lot of drugs have “breast tenderness or enlargement” as a rare side effect. Tagamet, for example. www.gynecomastia.org has a list.
Environmental factors can be at work too. There are a lot of substances that can mimic estrogen and that are used in common health products. Some sunscreen has an ingredient that’s chemically similar to estrogen. Tea tree oil is another and it’s very popular in soap right now – if you’re using tea tree oil soap, don’t.
Most people aren’t very sensitive to these things, which is why all males aren’t complaining of sore nipples even though these environmental estrogen mimics are all around.
Anyway, see a doctor. It’s probably nothing serious, but the things that it just might be that are serious are REALLY bad, and you want to get after them asap.
p.s. – I just reread your Q. I hadn’t seen the “been like this for 24 hours” part before. Ok, you don’t need to see a doctor today, or even tomorrow. But if it’s not any better after a week, GSAD.
