Hannah: Why is it we “fall in love” and marry people when other animals shag anyone?
i mean like, male animals have sex with many female animals of the same species when we normally “fall in love” and marry someone and spend the rest of our lives with them. It’s abit strange don’t you think?
Also i know most people have sex with many people before they marry but you know what i mean. (I know not everyone gets married)

Maybe you should do a little research. Many animals, such as wolves, mate for life. They don’t go shagging “everything,” only the very basic of animals do.

Marriage is a social construct designed create bonds between families and to keep people together long enough to raise children.
It goes entirely against our nature, thats why its so f*cking hard.

Not just any. Think of all the birds and reptiles and such that have mating rituals. Gotta have an impressive array of feathers in your arsenal if you want to be successful at love in the peacock world.
Penguins are for life, I think.
If we went by “animal” standards, only the beautiful/muscular/healthy people would get to mate. Love evens the odds a bit for those of us who don’t have that much going for us.Answer by BabeHart
If you want to behave like an animal, go ahead…plenty of people don’t marry but choose to have casual sexual relationships throughout their life…others find benefit in having a long term partner…having morals, a conscience, and a different level of intelligence from most animals kinda makes a difference for humans (don’t ya think???)Answer by Just
Some animals do in fact mate with anything that moves. Others mate for life. As humans, it is part of our social circumstances which cause us to be monogamous. Still, married people will look at others. It doesn’t mean they’ll do anything about it, but they do still look. So maybe the desire is always there to mate with others, but whether or not we do it is an entirely different story.Answer by say it all…
Could be that we are not animals…have you thought about that brainiac?Answer by terraisearth
You know what else is strange? Many species of animals have sex with the same gender just to get their rocks off. Explain THAT.Answer by bandaid_46
Humans are not the only animals that mate for life. Many species mate for life.
We have highly organized societies, with cultures, rules, and values that lower animals do not. Do you find that strange, too? Do you want some big, hairy, ugly bruiser deciding that if he can kill or subdue all the men in town that he, and only he, should be able to mate with all the women? Wouldn’t that be strange?
Answer by KarlI can’t speak for the animals but all I know is as soon as I’m done marking my territory, I’m going to catch up with some friends, sniff a little butt, sing with at the moon and then go hound dog some b*tches!Answer by Richa
Swans mate for life.
I guess it’s to do with evolution. People who mated for life had a better chance of having more children who reached adulthood. They passed on their mate-for-life genes to their children who also mated for life and produced more, healthier, longer-living children. The ones with the promiscuous gene had children who had a less good chance of doing well in life and who were less likely to reach adulthood because they only had one parent looking after them.
In the days when men went out to hunt if there wasn’t a man around the woman and kids would either go hungry and die or the woman would have to go out and get food. Because of her lesser physical stature she would be less good at getting food so the children would be less well nourished. The children would also be more vulnerable if they were left by themselves.
