meh: Why holiday breaks at school if not everyone celebrates it? What happened to seperation of school and church?
I don’t get why certain religions get special treatment at schools.
You don’t see Jehovah’s Witnesses getting holiday breaks, but you do Christians. Are certain religions considered more important than other in the school system or something?
How do you feel atheists? Should we even HAVE time off for religions? Shouldn’t everyone just take their own time to do their religious practices and not jeopardize their children’s education? Why should ALL children miss school JUST so a CERTAIN group of people can worship their God? It doesn’t make any sense to me! Your thoughts?

There is no separation of school and church. Not everyone celebrates MLK day but we still get it off. Just take the free day off. It’s “on the church”.
Well, I am white and I have to celebrate Martin Luther King Day. I don’t think that is fair. And why do Atheists worry about it so much? They get the time off, too.Answer by Curtis
If you study History you will find that the majority of people in the US were Christians and schools set their calenders accordingly. Once Holidays are set it is hard to remove them. No it has nothing to do with separation of church and state which only had to do with making sure that the government never set up a church like was done in England.Answer by dethmiayr
Why not simply enjoy the break. If they didn’t get the holiday off the only thing that would change is the length of the summer vacation.Answer by jojokeeper
All peoples have holidays.
Spring break celebrates the change of season, a pagan rite.
It is clearly a pagan rite when one considers what most do to celebrate this holiday.
Answer by The PassengerPersonally, I’m glad kids get some time off from school here and there and I’m always happy that my husband gets some time off of work occasionally. Around here, we have plenty of breaks that don’t have anything to do with religion. Fall break and Summer break and the longer ones. Martin Luther King day, Memorial Day, Presidents Day, and Labor Day aren’t religious either. And we call the end of December break, Winter break.
But if you don’t like breaks maybe you could do some volunteer work during that time. I like breaks so we can take a vacation.
