jonathan a: Why does my computer have no sound and say “there are no active mixers available…”?
The sound does not work on my computer. When I click on volume control, the error sound beeps and a message pops up that says “There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to control panel, click printers and other hardware, and then click add hardware.”
Someone told me to try this solution, BUT IT DOES NOT WORK:
Go to Start –> Run, and type in services.msc.
A window will pop up with a list of services. Scroll down to Windows Audio. Right-click
and click on Properties.
Make sure that “Startup type” is set to automatic. Also, make sure, under “Service
status,” start is selected.
Does anyone have an ALTERNATIVE solution? Is it possible that my computer did not come installed with a basic sound card?

Try reinstalling your sound drivers.
You probably don’t have the sound card drivers installed/installed correctly. If not, your sound card may be not connected properly to the motherboard, or may be broken.Answer by Matrixis
If you have speaker outputs on your computer then you have a sound card.
You need to find the manufacturers website and look in the support section for your sound drivers and install them. Your sound should then work fineAnswer by Love V

1. Did you add any new hardware or software right before this started?
2. Couple of things to check (not sure which OS you are running so I will give general info).
— Click on Start | settings | Control Panel | Sound, Speech and Audio Devices | Click on Sounds and Audio Devices| Click on the Audio Device.
Is there anything listed for the “default audio device”.
— If it is blank or says “No Audio Device Detected”. Click on the down arrow and see if there is an audio device listed.
— If there is no choice for an Audio Device then the sound drivers have been uninstalled or corrupted.
— Check the Device Manager. (Right click on My Computer | Click on Properties | Hardware | Device Manager.)
Is there an !, ? or red X on the listings under Sound, Video and Game controllers?
Or is there no listing for this and a listing of Unknown Device?
You should have a driver disk that came with your computer. If so you should be able to put it in and re-install the drivers.
If not, post the make and model of your computer (unless it is a custom build) and we can tell you where you can download your sound drivers from.
