Why do people say “Merry christmas and a happy new year”?

Lauren: Why do people say “Merry christmas and a happy new year”?
Rather than “Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year”?

This is probably a stupid question,
But I’d still like to know : )

People say that cause New Years is a Holiday after Christmas Thats why .
