Amanda: Where do i take the exams to get licensed as a SSW and as a teachers assistant?
Right now I’m working on an associate in psychology and read on some website I could be a teachers assistant without a degree just had to take an exam and pass it, and when I get my associates I can take the SSW exam and be a social worker. Where do I take the exams? What do I need to qualify to take them? Thanks. BTW I plan to go higher than an associate in psych.
What kinds of questions are asked on the exam/s?

To be a teacher’s asst. you just need to go to the District office for your local district and ask about it there is usually a 10-12 dollar fee but the test is really easy. As for the other test I have never taken that one but I know people who have and it is the same concept as the other. You need to contact the local county offices and inquire about the test. They will tell you who you need to call and when they are giving the test next.
Edit: On the teachers asst. exam which is now nationally the “no child left behind” standard that Bush instituted, there are 4 sections. Section one is language. You need to be able to read a story and understand all the components of it, be able to explain why the story was being told and answer questions about the story. For this section you will also need a decent vocabulary and know how words relate to each other. For the math section if you graduated high school you should be fine. There are mostly just addition, subtraction, multiplication and division questions. There were a handful of geometry and algebra 1 questions and I got 1 Trigonometry question. And then you have the section for educational practices. They will ask you a lot of common sense questions about how to handle certain classroom crisis should they ever arise. How to deal with interpersonal situations with staff/parents. As long as you are always mindful of student safety and defer to you superiors and deflect all interpersonal situations to the teacher or principal you are golden. The last section is an essay question. It is not always the same but two I have encountered are: Describe your idea of an ideal teacher and why. And If you could take the children in your class on any kind of field trip you wanted what would it be and why? For both of these as long as you use proper essay format (usually the 5 paragraph works best) and do not make too many spelling and grammatical mistakes and keep the best interests of the children at the forefront it is impossible to fail.
As for the other test I have never taken it but I was told it is much the same only at a slightly higher level of education and without the essay.
