Sarah Neff: where can a 12 year old get a tattoo?
In the United States, there is no federal law stating a required age to be tattooed. When a person reaches the age of 18 in the U.S., they are legally considered an adult. Many states require that the person being tattooed is an adult over 18, but some states do allow minors (17 or less) to be tattooed with parental consent. In all jurisdictions, even those having no law dictating a minimum age, individual tattooers may choose to set age restrictions for their business as a precaution against lawsuits. This is partially based on the legal principle that a minor cannot enter into a legal contract or otherwise render informed consent for a procedure. Most such tattooers will allow a parent or guardian to give written or oral consent in person. The artist may also choose to place addition restrictions based on his or her own moral feelings, such as refusing any clients under a specific age even with parental consent, or limiting the type and/or location of where they are willing to tattoo a minor (such as refusing any work around intimate parts of the body). Artists sometimes claim their personal business restrictions are a matter of law even when it is not true, so as to avoid arguments with clients.

Well yes it is legal for 12 year old to get tattoos, but some tattoo shops will not allow miners to get one. It just depends on the place, and you have to make sure if you find one that will let you get one that they are licensed.
Also you’ll have to ask them how to take care of it or it might fade a little in a month.
And you should get it touched up every 5 to 10 years.Answer by Savannah
dont get one u will regret itAnswer by Leigh
Are you asking a question? It just sounds like you are listing a bunch of tattoo facts.
Even if there is no set law in your state about the age of consent for tattooing a minor, I don’t know any tattoo artist who would do it for fear of being sued in civil court by the parents of the minor. Any decent tattoo artist would refuse to tattoo a 12 year old.Answer by NicTurtle

A 12 yr old should not be getting a tattoo. Way to young. They don’t know what they want yet. They should wait till they’re at least 18. Plus I don’t think a 12 yr old can take the pain. It’s not a little buzz. It’s a burning, painful feeling that lasts. Btw. It’s called an artist, not a tattooer.Answer by MajikMajikNinja
dont listen to these people telling you not to get one -.- if you have made up your mind, then you arent going to listen. im 13 and getting one in august, and my mind id made up. end of story. find a friend or someone who does tattoos and is willing to do it. maybe your friend or someone else has a connect you can talk toAnswer by mzjavert
This is not a Federal issue. It is a state issue. Most states require either 16 with parental permission or 18, though in South Carolina you have to be 18 with parental permission to get a tattoo and 21 without parental permission to get a tattoo. Yes, shops are free to have tighter restrictions than the state law mandates.
To tattoo a child who has not gone through puberty is just irresponsible and I doubt you’d find a legitimate shop that would do so.
Answer by FLAWDA CHiiiCK- 6.10.10♥ I missed you BabeeWhen my friends were 12 they would act all flirty with the pervy tattoo guy and he would give them tattoos and piercings. They dressed grown up and wore make up too. But I don’t advise you to do that. lol! I know how it is to be young and want a tattoo though. You should wait until you know it’s something you’ll want forever.
