Jennifer: When is the government going to do some major welfare reform?
I think there are too many people relying on government assistance that abuse it and stay on it longer than needed to get back on their feet. I never, ever see anything in the news about welfare reform. Why won’t the government do anything about it?

They are, they are making it more easy to get. The Democrats goal is to make everybody dependent on the government.
Anyone who says it is just democrats who don’t want welfare reform is full of sh*t.
I think both democrats and republicans will keep welfare the way it is for the most part. Neither are interested in losing a potential voter. Besides, congress doesn’t worry about social security as they have a pension plan, so they don’t care what happens to the publics pension plan.
Answer by Barry auh2oit should be ovious that ” welfare reform” is nothing more than empty campaign rhetoric.
In my area. the number one thing which makes most people furious is the fact that anyone who comes into the area from out of state can just go and sign right up for welfare. There used to be a residency rule, you had to reside in the state for a year. The US supreme court ruled it unconstitiutional.
With friends like we have in washington, who needs enemies???
Answer by IAARIt will never happen,
Every time someone suggests any type of workable welfare reform it is shot down.
I was a fan of the welfare to work program, but I guess the “work” part of that plan scared everybody off.
Answer by E HondaI think the financial impact of welfare is so low on the totem pole compared to higher dollar impacts, that the president in the 2012 term, be it Obama or someone else, will be more likely to address it.
When hyper-inflation hits, which all the signs point to, the dollar amounts paid out in welfare stay at the pay points they are at today. Those amounts will aggregately be an even smaller amount of each tax payer’s purse and beneficiaries will only receive somewhere in neighborhood of $ 5,000 per year per family in today’s dollars, so the problem will really work itself out naturally.
