Court: Whats the difference between renting a house and an apartment?
I’ve tried to ask people around me and even my mom who I know has rented a house but noone can seem to give me a definite answer. Reason I’m wondering is because I am moving to finish college and a friend and I are looking for housing together. I am really leaning towards renting a house but want some knowledge about it before pursuing it more. I mean, are there taxes or different stuff to pay for?

its not taxes…all you pay the rent while the owner pays property tax
apartments are easier to manage and are safer.
Answer by stevepitt2Usually the owner pays the taxes. In any rental, the responsibility of the renter should be spelled out. Who mows the lawn, repairs the furnace, fixes leaks, takes away the garbage, etc.Answer by corduroy-fire-kills-7
The main difference is that with a house, you are typically responsible for the upkeep of the yard and pay all utilities. With an apartment, the management company maintains the yard and sometimes pays for water, garbage, or internet. Another common difference in my area is that houses do NOT rent with washers, dryers, or refrigerators whereas apartments usually come with them. With a house, if there is a pool, you will most likely be responsible for the upkeep of the pool.
