Razor: What’s the difference between gymnastics and tumbling?
I found a gymnastics program that’s pretty good price but I want to learn stuff like back handsprings, backflips, and all the stuff to do parkour. People recommend me tumbling instead. I found a tumbling class near me but it’s pretty expensive. Can someone tell me what’s the difference between these two?

gymnastics involves all the different apparatuses. like balance beam, bars, floor (tumbling) and vault…those are for women, for men there are a few different ones. if you just want to do the flips then do tumbling instead b/c it will just focus on that.
Gymnastics are for more advanced kids. Tumbling is more for 1-3 yrs and parents usually participate in the class. Mostly they lear summer-saults, cart-wheels,etc.Answer by smileygirl244
gymnastics focuses on more than just doing flips, they include the bars, vault, beam, and some dance elements.
tumbling focuses on just the floor part without the dance stuff incorporated into it. they will just focus on the flips and so you will probably learn them faster since you don’t have to worry about the other events.

Their are many differences between tumbling, and gymnastics.
1. The events. In tumbling their are 4 events Rod floor, double mini, trampoline, and sychro trampoline, but you are not required to compete on all 4. In gymnastics their are also 4 events floor ex, bars, beam, vault and you are required to compete on all 4.
2.Teams. In tumbling it is primarily an individual sport other than synchro trampoline where you work with a partner the only element of team is the fact that you all train with the same coach. In gymnastics you have a team of 5 girls who compete as a team and a lot of emphasis is placed on that team.
3.Dance. In power tumbling their is no dance all the emphasis is placed on technique and execution of skills whereas in gymnastics dance is just as much a part of the sport as the tumbling elements and execution is not as highly emphasised when it comes to the acrobatic skills.
Answer by miz pizAt any place that offers gymnastics, they should have a class that is just tumbling. Ask them if they have a tumbling class if that is what you are interested in, otherwise you will practice on the beam, vault and bars also.Answer by Kiersten
for the skills that you want to learn, you should definitaly do tumbling. gymnastics includes all four of the events, and tumbling is just on floor.
