Hotels usually have indoor halways to the rooms—-motels have exterior doors to the rooms………………Answer by Maybe???
Hotels are more luxurious than motels.
The word motel is a combination of the words Motor Hotel, which became Motel. At first, to combat high hotel prices, someone invented a “drive-in hotel”, with rooms on the ground floor, sometimes as high as 3 floors. Just like fast food, the basics, no service.
There is no minimum height for a property to be called a hotel, though.Answer by Nik_smarty
motel is type of hotel in the form of a single building of connected rooms whose doors faced a parking lot and, in some circumstances, a common area; or a series of small cabins with common parking.
A hotel is an establishment that provides paid lodging, usually on a short-term basis. Hotels often provide a number of additional guest services such as a restaurant, a swimming pool or childcare. Some hotels have conference services and meeting rooms and encourage groups to hold conventions and meetings at their location.

most Motels are just a room with usually a TV. A Motel was named because it was Motor (in older times, most were near a highway) hotel. Most are, as you state, two to three floors. The rooms tend to have outdoor enterances to the room

All of the above answers are right, plus “motel” comes from motor – hotel, rather aptly named. Cars parked usually within sight / close proximity of the room. Access from the outside. Because they take up more space than hotels usually located outside major city centres and in cheaper areas. Good value. Do they have dining rooms? Can’t remember.Answer by ryan@atlantis
The two main differences between hotels and motels are:
1. Motels are usually limited to 2 or 3 stories, where as hotels can be as tall as 30 stories or more… and
2. Most motels have exterior corridors, whereas most hotels have interior corridors.
Other noticeable differences are that motels usually aren’t as nice as hotels, and motels are usually cheaper that hotels.
