Tsl19: What’s the best bargain hotel/motel to stay in while visiting Vanderbilt in Nashville?
I’m planning a visit to Vanderbilt University. I’ve never been before and need to save money. What’s the best bargain hotel/motel nearby? (preferably walking distance to campus)

Research online
The best bargains are near the airport, which is nowhere near VU.
I looked at www.tripadvisor.com and it looks like the VU area is around $ 140 a night. Since you didn’t give dates, I just picked a date in April. If you will go to that site, enter Nashville and your dates, it will give a complete list of hotels. Then narrow it in the Location box at the right to VU and within a mile or half-mile. Another great site is www.visitmusiccity.com which also gives discounted rates. You can also look at reviews at TripAdvisor.
If you are going on a college visit, you might ask their admissions office if they have any rooms in the dorms for prospective students. Or if they have an arrangement with nearby hotels for discounted rooms.

75 W. Chestnut St., Nashville, IN 47448

Other hotels that are within 2 miles are typically above $ 100, like Hampton Inn & Suites Nashville-Vanderbilt-Elliston Place, Loews Vanderbilt Hotel.

Answer by Jenny KnightI can recommend the Guest House Inn, which is a small privately-owned hotel that’s only two block away from Vanderbilt. The rooms are clean, smart and have all the usual stuff plus a few extras like microwave, coffee-maker and so on.
It has all the facilities of the big hotels but none of the downsides. Before you go, you might want to check out this website for ways of getting bargain rooms at all hotels:
You can save a few extra dollars quite easily.
