Fabulicious12: What to do if my parrot is pecking his feathers off his tummy?
I have heard that most parrots peck their feathers off their stomachs.
I have seen & heard that you can buy a lotion to stop the pecking, but are there any other solutions to stop the pecking?
I love my parrot & I hate to see him peck his feathers. He doesn’t peck all his feathers just his lil tummy feathers & some from his neck.
Please help!

Birds pull their feathers out when there is a problem, ie: anxiety, boredom, etc…
You need to figure out what is causing him to do this. Try changing the toys in his cage every few days along with letting him out to interact with you as often as possible.
good luck
Answer by ms bellFeather picking is a destructive, obsessive disease caused by hormones, parasites, and stress, among other problems. Some vets use collars to prevent the picking. Please take your parrot to a vet to determine the best treatment for his feather plucking. Good luck!

Answer by tode909While I have never had a bird that plucked its feathers, a friend of mine gave her 8-year-old child a quaker parrot and within a year it was plucking its feathers. They called the vet and found out it was because his cage wasn’t clean. I don’t know if this is your bird’s problem, but maybe it might help. Lotions, if any, HAVE to be vet-prescribed, along with any other methods. Buildups of fecal matter can be invitations for many kinds of diseases, some of them lethal. So maybe try cleaning his cage once a week. Hope this helps!
