SMC871: What to be aware of when buying a car privately?
A couple of weeks ago my car got written off. We are now looking to buy a car to keep for a few months, so not looking to spend more than £500.
I know when you are looking at cars from private sellers you need to be wary, as the cars can be anything from stolen to not having a real MOT certificate. I have already looked at a couple of cars with ‘dodgy dealers’! You don’t get a warranty either!
So i was wondering what you would advise looking for when viewing/buying a car privately!

with that amount , you will be lucky to find something that’s running, Anyway, 1 golden rule, if is too good to be true, then it is too good to be true, paid for something that fits the price you offer. Test drive before you buy, ask a lot of questions, occasionally repeat them, if you get the same answer more or likely the fellow is telling the truth. if paid cash, do so until the registration is in your name. do it in day time same day, so nothing got switch around or can’t see it in the dark. Research help educate yourself, won’t hurt if you know more about the car. good luck
