megafrog001: What laws protect consumers from businesses publishing debtors status?
I received a first bill in the mail from my dentist’ office stating on the letter and plainly visible through the window on the envelope that the debt was past due. In no way was the debt past due and if this were a financial services company, the FDCPA would apply. Any thoughts on what laws would apply to this? I do know that it is against the law to do this as this is why a supermarket can not post a list of people who bounced checks etc. I am trying to find out the exact law. Any help would be appreciated!

The best answer I could give you is Privacy Laws. I’m not sure there is any specific law protecting consumers from businesses publishing debtors status.
