nothing wrong to what you said, nee how, or Ni Hao, 你好 means good day to you in Mandarin dialect.
perhaps they have different dialect, or they just laugh cause youre speaking their language.
Where is this McDonalds drive-thru? It might help to know.Answer by Mulberry3
Mandarin Chinese is a tonal language. This means that the tone of voice in which you pronounce certain words can make a difference in the meaning. Perhaps you did not use the correct tones to express the greeting you intended to state?Answer by PoohBearPenguin
It might help if we knew where this particular drive-thru is.
Mandarin is the most common Chinese dialect, but if you’re in Hong Kong, you’ll want to use Cantonese, for example.
Of course, if you’re talking about some random girl at some McDonalds in the US, she may not actually speak Chinese at all – assuming she even is Chinese… A friend of mine once gave his entire order in Japanese…before realizing that the waitress was Korean.
Answer by kelly greentwigI have to question where you are because I haven’t seen any drive thru’s in China.Answer by Dyne Arienne
I would think she’s amused that you’re speaking her language, and maybe you sound cute/funny, so she’s laughing as a gesture of goodwill (:
