bliss: What kind of horse and tack should I get for a beginner?
I’m picking out my first horse in two weeks. I’ve ridden before with other friends horse but all we do is ride around the pasture. And my mom said if i have my own horse i could do dressage and hunter/jumping.

If you have been working with a trainer or are planning to work with one, the trainer would be a very good person to start asking questions. An all purpose saddle would probably be a good one to start with because most of them are designed to put you in a good position, and have a seat design that allows you to do low level jumping and dressage. The ones I have ridden in are also quite comfortable for trail riding.
I would recommend working with a reputable tack shop or horse trainer because they can be a really big help in assuring that you have tack that is right for what you want to do. Another reason I would suggest finding someone like this to help you is that it is very important that the saddle is a good fit for both you and the horse. A horse can quickly develop problems(both behavior problems and physical problems) if the saddle does not fit them properly. The riding experience will also be much better for you if the saddle fits you well.
Hopefully your mother is experienced with horses or someone you know that is experienced with horses and can go with you and help you to choose a horse that is right for you and your goals. Unless the person selling the horse that you plan to purchase is someone you know and trust it is important to have an experienced horse person who can “approve” your purchase because not all sellers are going to be open and honest about the horse, it’s training, abilities, personality, soundness, sanity, and if it’s truly a good match for you. A trainer or professional may charge something to help you with this process, but they can also save you a lot of pain, heartache and money in the long run!!
Good Luck!!!!
