ihcuids: What kind of bike would you suggest for a first time rider to buy?
I know that if it’s my first one used is the way to go. I tend to lean towards the rice rockets really, one that is kinda of flashy but not too over-powered that it might be too much for a newbie like me. And honestly, I don’t like Harleys. Sorry, but that’s not for me. I’m really looking for a bike that I can ride comfortably around town on my days off just to have a little fun.

A Ninja 250 would be your best bet! Not to heavy and not to overpowering. If I were just starting out, this is what I would buy…..Hope this helps
First things first, they are called “crotch rockets” not rice rockets.
Other than that is seems that you realize the logic in starting out with a smaller CC bike, but remember that even a 500CC bike can be a handful if you are a first time rider.
I would recommend a well maintained Honda CBR600 or perhaps a Ninja 600CC. These bikes are still incredibly fast but are bit more forgiving to the new rider, as you can get adjusted to controlling the throttle and learn the dynamics of riding a bike.
Some recommend a smaller engine, but if you take your time to learn and get comfortable with the bike you should be fine. Trust me, you will soon find that the smaller bike is not enough and want a larger bike. Save yourself the trouble of buying two starter bikes.
You should be able to find a clean CBR600 for around $ 3K.
Answer by redmenplaya14I would go with the honda cbr 600 because it has the power if you want it and you can just cruise if you want toAnswer by SpecialK
I would recommend the Ninja for the following reasons:
Enough Power To Have Fun, But Not Enough To Intimidate You
Light and Easy To Handle And Maneuver
Cheap (Probably Less Than $ 2k For A 2005)
Has Been Very Popular So They Are Readily Available
Lower Insurance Rates
Great Resale Value When You Decide To Move Up
Whatever you choose, please take a MSF course and wear all of your protective equipment including helmet, boots, gloves, jacket and pants. You will be very thankful when you drop it.
Answer by [email protected]Make sure you take a safety course but you should also look at Hyosung’s sport bikes they run right with the ninja. they come in 250 and 650 size both full sport bike and naked sport bike. Just as good and well made with a warranty. They are not some of the imported junk that has flooded the market.Answer by randygreen04
I would get a GSXR 600! very light bike with not to much power for a beginner but has enough power to ride after you learn! My wifes first bike was a 2007 GSXR 600Answer by sn00p
nobody has to apologize for not liking a harley, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and everyone has different tastes…. otherwise we’d be arguing about what’s better a blue bike or a red bike
if you’re a new rider just buy something small, used, and cheap to start. a cruiser is easier to get the hang of off the bat… but that’s your call…. if your tastes shoot it down then do whatever you’d like
just don’t turn into a harley basher…. not preferring them is one thing, picking at them without having had one is just ignorant

Look for a used 1995-6 BMW R850 R which sells for around $ 3,200. It’s fast while being very smooth for those long trips.
Good luck!
