Keaton: What kind of bike is best for losing weight?
Im fifteen and I really wanna lose weight. I heard biking is really good for that and I have a bmx bike but I don’t know if that will do what other bikes would. So basically my question is, Does it matter what kind of bike you ride to lose weight?

Any as long as you burn calories riding it.
I tend to go for one that has a frame and two wheels with tires on it….Answer by Jim S
You are better off riding the bike you currently have and changing your diet. I suggest you follow a low-carb diet and really watch your intake of breads and pastas. You might like this new book called The Primal Blueprint. The author has a web site called Mark’s Daily Apple. He talks about the right kind of diet and exercise to lose weight and stay fit.Answer by dread head
One that moves! Has tires! I would think a single speed bike, because you would have to work harder. I also think that a bike with at least 14 speeds gives you a more varied work out, and you will have more fun.Answer by robb
For the purposes of cardiovascular health and weight loss, a dedicated exercise bicycle will do you better than a real bike. This is because you can set it at a consistent resistance making it easier to maintain a target heart rate over a long period of time. With a real bicycle, you will undoubtedly encounter downhills that will allow you to rest and your heart rate to come down. This is not a problem if you’re Lance Armstrong and you ride your bike intensely for hours a day. However, if you’re like the average person and your exercise window is more like 30 minutes a day, you don’t want to spend half of that time resting and letting gravity do the work. Of course, an exercise bike is less fun to use, so if you think exercise discipline will be an issue, stick with the BMX.
If an exercise bike is out of the question, a road bike will likely give you a better workout than a BMX bike because you can gear up on downhills and still pedal against resistance. With a single speed bike like a BMX, you would have to pedal impossibly fast to get any resistance while going downhill. You can also gear a road bike down for going up hills allowing you to pedal faster against better resistance unlike a single speed bike that will result in pedaling slowly at too high a resistance.
The bottom line is that a road bike would probably serve you better, but it’s an investment and you already own a BMX bike. Any bike will do, as long as you are committed to riding it on a regular basis.
Answer by GrillparzerJust get on it and ride, there may be better bicycles for different types of trips or terrain but you’re not going to lose weight by sitting on your butt thinking about them. Rubber side down.Answer by wle ņ│ã∩╬α ░░▒▓▓▒░░
