James: What jobs in the Navy rank up the quickest? And how long are the enlisting obligation?
I’m planning on joining the Navy and I want to know what jobs rank up quicker. I know there is some really cool jobs there like the Air Guys, but they don’t pick up rank quick at all. I also wanted to know how long is the Enlisting obligation. Thanks!

don’t pick a rating based on how fast you will advance. choose one you will enjoy.

All first enlistments are for 8 years….. 4 or 6 years active duty and 4 or 2 years inactive reserves.
Answer by lana_sandsYou are promoted based on your performance, time in rate, & your CO’s approval. The standard enlistment is for 4 years active service.Answer by Mr. President
Advancement rates are extremely fluid.
All rates have fallen. Advancement to PO 2nd Class in the IS rate (intel) was over 90%, this year about 10%. IT (computer operators) was really big two or three years ago and now that’s below 10%.
You want rank quick? Army Infantry.
Answer by Daniel YoungHow quickly you rank up in a particular rating depends what rank you are trying to be promoted too. Saying you are going for PO2 but that particular rating is full of po2’s this year. Next year there could be more po1’s making it easier to be a po2. It just depends on timing. There are certain rates that are overmanned any of those you will have a harder time getting threw all the rankings. The only ones I can think of off hand are AD and master of arms. From what I hear AT is pretty easy to get promotions as is AW.
I wouldn’t pick a job only on how fast I’ll get promoted because if you don’t like the job and you don’t give it your all because you don’t like it you will be even less likely to get promoted.
Also as a rule every job has the same amount minimum amount between ranks e4 1 year e5 1 year e6 3 years e7 3 years just for example.
Good luck.
