The NYSE, now called “NYSE Euronext” trades under NYX.
“NYSE Euronext Common Stock”

There is also the NYSE 100;
iShares NYSE 100 Index (NY)

Here is a list of other NYSE ETFs
The NASDAQ can be traded under the QQQQ which represents the 100 largest companies in Nasdaq, but does not represent the entire composite.
If you want to trade the entire NASDAQ Composite there is an ETF for that.
“Fidelity Nasdaq Composite Index Tracking (ONEQ)”

Both being stock exchanges they don’t have tickers. Tickers are for instruments that are traded on stock exchanges. This includes indices like DJ Industrial etc.Answer by BKG
The NYSE and NASDAQ are stock exchanges (or stock markets) where trading in various stocks, bonds and financial derivatives take place.
The NYSE is owned & operated by a company called NYSE Euronext, which is a public company and has a stock. Its ticker is: NYX
The NASDAQ is an electronic exchange, there is no physical trading floor and it is not a public company. It was founded and operated by the National Association of Security Dealers (NASD) which is a non-governmental, self-regulatory association that reports to the SEC. It does not have a ticker symbol.
