VII: What is the penalty for riding your bike under the influence of alcohol?
I will turn 21 soon, and I am going to join a bike crew. We’re gonna hit up a couple bars. I hang out with hipsters, they all do it, but I didn’t want to drink and ride my bike until 21. What is the legal limit to ride your bike, and if you go over this limit, what will do? And I mean bicycles, you know, the ones you pedal.

Technically, you could be charged with DWI just as if you were driving a car. A cyclist is considered a vehicle under the traffic law and is subject to the same rights and resposibilities as an automobile driver.

But the real cost will be not having control of your bike, swerving out into traffic while you ride and getting hit by a car.

If you go out to celebrate, call a cab.

The penalties for riding while intoxicated are the exact same as driving while intoxicated. Because the laws are automobile centric in nature, you can and will have your drivers license suspended if you are arrested for riding a bicycle while intoxicated. I admit I tried it once and once was enough. Even a couple of beers had a detrimental effect on balance, then include the degraded judgment caused by the alcohol, and I decided it wasn’t worth repeating.

What’s a ” hipster ” ??? You can get a DUI, or something close to it. Drunk in pubic at the least. If it’s .08 or higher in California, you will be arrested and jailed for at least 6 hours or more.

First, Phil is a pansy. Don’t listen to him. Drinking and riding is tons of fun. Try it at night with no hands. If you even think about wearing a helmet, you should probably just kill yourself. The main obstacle you’ll have to worry about is zombies.

It’s allot harder to ride a bike than drive a car. You will have trouble keeping balance. The chances are might get hit by a car. Police sees you swerving back and forth on road most likely to pull you over.

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate your 21st birthday. A lifelong injury, a DUI, lose drivers license, high insurance rats until you are 25 years old, that is if you make it that long.
