that’s just me: What is the history of cavalier king charles spaniels and king charles spaniels?
I’m just curious because I have a cavalier king charles spaniel ( they’re awesome dogs) I know there is also a breed called the king charles spaniel. I know the differences and stuff, but I want to know the history and how they ended up with the names they have and stuff like that.

King Charles Spaniel is the other name for the English Toy Spaniel.
The Cavalier is more closely related to Cocker Spaniels in appearance, while the King Charles Spaniel is more closely related to the Pug.
(Yes that was just from Wiki sorry)
Other than that, I am unsure
Answer by Rayven~Summer Troll PatrolIn regards to the English Toy Spaniel – King Charles refer to the COLOR of the dog, in this case Black and Tan.
Color
The Blenheim (red and white) consists of a pearly white ground with deep red or chestnut markings evenly distributed in large patches. The ears and the cheeks are red, with a blaze of white extending from the nose up the forehead and ending between the ears in a crescentic curve. It is preferable that there be red markings around both eyes. The Blenheim often carries a thumb mark or “Blenheim Spot” placed on the top and the center of the skull.
The Prince Charles (tricolor) consists of a pearly white ground, with evenly distributed black patches, solid black ears and black face markings. It is preferable that there be black markings around both eyes. The tan markings are of a rich color, and on the face, over the eyes, in the lining of the ears, and under the tail.
The King Charles (black and tan) is a rich, glossy black with bright mahogany tan markings appearing on the cheeks, lining of the ears, over the eyes, on the legs and underneath the tail. The presence of a small white chest patch about the size of a quarter, or a few white hairs on the chest of a King Charles Spaniel are not to be penalized; other white markings are an extremely serious fault.
The Ruby is a self-colored, rich mahogany red. The presence of a small white chest patch about the size of a quarter, or a few white hairs on the chest of a Ruby Spaniel are not to be penalized. Other white markings are an extremely serious fault.

In regards to the CKCS, they are descended from the Toy Spaniel seen in 16th-18th century paintings. It was during the rule of the Stuart family that they were given the name King Charles Spaniel. They were such a favorite of King Charles II that he was made a decree that the dogs were to be allowed any and everywhere including Parliament.
Answer by Cavalier KCS momIn my own words as i remember reading in books about the Cavalier king Charles spaniel…
King Charles the II had multiple little Blenheim spaniels by his side at all times in the palace. That is how the name came from. “King Charles”. The breed was named after him. The coloring that we call “Blenheim” was named after the Blenheim Palaces he lived in. As years went by those King Charles spaniels as they were bred their faces continued to become shorter and shorter. Until finally there were no longer the little Spaniels with the longer muzzles like the Cavalier we know of today. Then in 1923 i believe a lady had a contest to see which person had the best kind of spaniel that closely resembled the breed of the old ones that King Charles the II had. Shortly there after they were bred to have the longer muzzles that we have today. Then they added the Cavalier to the name because the word “Cavalier” means carefree. Then the King Charles breed with the smushed in faces were then renamed as the “English Toy Spaniel”.
