What is the difference between Game programming and Buisness programming?

I would like to get into the Video Game Industry, and the only class i have in high school is Business Programming. Is that a good way to start?

There is a lot of differences, but that class will at least give you a taste of what programming is and if you are good at it.

Game programming is all about speed and efficiency, while business programming is about readability and maintenability.

Well, first you’ll have to learn to program at all. So, yes it’s a good way to start.

But then, it depends on what programming language you are using. Most commonly used is C++, C# or Java. Therefore, you might want to find out what language the company you want to work for is using.
In addition, I know that some games are programmed using a game engine. Which can result in writing scripts to run in the game engine, rather than programming the game itself. That can get pretty boring.

The main difference, is that game programming is usually in C or C++ (for speed and portability), while business programming is usually java/C# because they take care of ‘details’ for you. The problem with using those languages for games is that they are very slow and inefficient.

The short answer is that you should take ANY programming classes you can, because the game design business requires you to be an exceptionally good programmer, so starting early is a very good idea.

At a high school level you take what you can get. It’s just good to get down the basic programming logic. You can apply that to game programming.
Game programming involves a mixture of coding and graphic design. You’ll need to get good at using shared libraries to combine the programming logic side of things in C/C++ and the design side of things with visual 3D development software.

The difference in Game programming and Business Programming is that one is for games and the other is for business applications.

As to the part about whether the take the Business Programming course.

I would take this, as it is very hard to get a jon as a game programmer. While you pursue the job of a Game Programmer, you could make some money doing Business programs. This way, you could have a job, earn money, and probablt be able to afford to do some courses at college, or wherever that deal in Games Programming.

If you are unsuccessful in getting a job in the games industry, which is highly competittive, as nearly everyone wants to do it, you can stay in the job as a business programmer.

This way, you can still earn a living while you pursue your interests in becoming a game programmer.

After a while of being a business programmer, you could even start your own business and allow yourself time to study, or gain experience in the games indutry without having to worry about your business programming job.

So basically, doing the Business Programming course would benefit you a lot. Plus, you will learn about programming, and how a programming language works.
