My fiancee does a lot. I want to express my appreciation to her. Saying “thank you” and doing helpful things does not fully express how I feel. I need some suggestions. Unfortunately, money is tight right now.

I would say, sit back and think: What sort of expression of love has she really liked in the past? Some people really love a special gift (doesn’t have to be expensive all the time, sometimes just really thoughtful), while some people really like helpful things or words. If you can figure out which one she likes most, you can really show her you’re touched.

I’m a words person. Being told in a letter how much I’m appreciated makes me happy more than anything else. But everyone has their different key ways of feeling loved.

One way to make someone feel appreciated is to do it long-term. That’s the hardest way, but it means the most. If you always notice the things she does, and you always make her feel good about them, that’s an amazing amazing gift. Because sometimes you will take her for granted. If you can always be touched that she did so much, you will have a very healthy marriage. Sometimes it is not one gesture that makes the difference, but the *consistency* of always thanking. That steadfastness will be the most beautiful thing, like running a marathon instead of a sprint.

For me, it’s definitely the little things and NOT the words. If, once in awhile, my fiance takes over a task that I usually take care of without being asked to, then I know how much he appreciates me. Sometimes he’ll do laundry before I can get to it, or he’ll clean things that I usually clean. Every now and again he comes home with flowers for no reason except that he loves me. The little things – trust me… she’ll notice 🙂

Say thank you .. then help her with something you know she hates.. like dishes for example. and say I did the dishes for you today.. just because you normally do them and i wanted to show you how much I appreciate you doing them by doing them for you today.
