Crimson: What is the best way to get ready for ballet?
My friend is starting ballet. She is a beginner and she’s 14. I don’t really remember what i did to get ready for ballet. She wants to know the kind of things that you need. [not clothing] Like if you need to be flexible in certain ways. We are not going to a school for ballet just a summer class.

See if she has a good turn out and is she can balance. Take her to watch your ballet class before you try to teach her anything and she can see what you have to be able to do.
I just started ballet this year, and am, well, older, just as your friend is. I had never taken ballet before, and hardly knew anything at all.
I basically did the following:
– looked up the five positions (she’ll need to know them, trust me)
– stretched out (honestly, any stretches will work- crunches, leg lifts, straddles, toe touches, and so much more)
– tried walking around on the balls of my feet and balancing that way
I honestly didn’t know a lot at first. If she wants to make her feet stronger, tell her to get a Bunheads exercise band from discountdance.com – they’re amazing!
Good luck to your friend!

I would just work on strengthening your legs and core. Ballet requires a lot of strength. I would also say that it would help if she tried stretching her legs (try touching your toes, sitting on the floor in a straddle and stretching forward towards the ground, etc.) Have fun in Ballet class!! It might be hard at first, but keep on trying!Answer by dancer
I started ballet last year and i guess to get ready I stretched a lot especially like the splits and tons of releves. they help the most to build calf muscle…but i was also trying to get ready for pointe….but they still help because you definitely need muscle to dance ballet
