Travis W: What is the best way to get better at working algebra problems?
I am taking Elementary Algebra in college and seem to be having trouble understanding how to solve the answers correctly. It has been 9 years since I’ve been in school and need some guidance.

talk to your tutor about individual lessons.
just remember when solving an equation whatever you do to one side the same thing has to be done to the other. also if you have to numbers multiplied and you want to get rid of one you divide ex. 10=2x+4 divide by 2 (remember to divide alll numbers by 2 (10,2,4) and that will leave you with 5=x+2 now you subtract two from both sidesAnswer by just_hanging_out
Lot’s of practice.
Lot’s of thinking.
Lot’s of patience.
Some frustration.
Lot’s of time at the tutoring center.
Math isn’t automatic, it comes through the avenues listed above. For some it will come slower than others. But if you keep in mind that there is absolutely no reason that you CAN’T complete the class successfully, then perhaps that may motivate you to stick with it!
I only am better at math than you because I have had more practice. You can get there too. Just takes time, and perseverance.
Answer by FizzleNobody can give you a perfect answer here. The best way? Some people do crosswords…it’s a game. Some do Sudoku…it’s a game. Some do the word scrambles…it’s a game. You’re doing algebra, and it’s a game, too. Make it one. I really do sympathize, because it’s extremely difficult for some people. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and remember that you’re PAYING for the professor to explain it to you (and don’t settle for less). One of the worst problems in college is that students feel stupid and don’t ask questions. It’s natural in a way, but if I could have overcome that, I’d have a degree. I don’t have one, even though I know a hell of a lot more math than you. If I could help you one-on-one I would. I did it for my neighbor’s sister, though.
