boombooshik: what is the best way of finding somewhere to rent in Santa Monica for 3 months?
I’m gonna be in Santa Monica for 2-3 months and I’m struggling to find somewhere to stay. I want to rent an apartment, but they tend to be at least 6 months lease.
I don’t really want to flat-share with other people.
Any ideas about where to look? I’ve been using craigslist but not having much luck.

You might consider one of the many house-sitting sites online. They have listings of places to live for a short amount of time…you watch someone’s home, and sometimes it’s for free! Try housecareers.com or housesitter.us
Otherwise, maybe Couch Surfing (couchsurfing.com)? 🙂 LA has a pretty extensive list of people willing to host visitors!
Good luck!
Answer by JohnI suggest you could go to sites like:
www.apartments.com
www.rent.com/rentals/california/los-angeles-and-vicinity/santa-monica/

If you think about this from the perspective of an apartment owner, they have no incentive to rent to short-term tenants. It’s hard to find a tenant, so renting to a short-term tenant really isn’t a good thing for them, since they have to clean the place and try to rent it after you leave, and that’s a pain in the rear. And expensive.
Your best bet is to probably stay at a hostel. (www.hostelsusa.com).
