If you want good quality shots for that low of a price you should look at the Canon EOS Rebel T3 EF-S 18-55IS II Kit for about $ 600. Its probably one of the cheapest SLRs that you will find with a lens new.
Look at the Nikon Coolpix L120. Its a great point and shoot camera but also has many features that you can operate manually when you get the feel for the camera. A lot of owners are raving about it over on Amazon and there are some good reviews on you tube as well.
There are two links below. Not affiliate links ! The first one is an industry review and the second is a youtube vid of someone that has bought the camera.
Answer by cineultimaCanon PowerShot A495- It works especially well for shooting photos in outdoor lighting.
Casio Exilim EX-Z16- Casio is aiming the recently announced Exilim EX-Z16 digital camera at beginning photographers who are looking for a low-priced camera that’s very easy to use.
Nikon Coolpix L20 – This model’s image quality is very good for a camera in this price range, the L20 offers a 3.6X optical zoom lens, which creates sharp images. Nikon offers the L20 in black, blue, and red.
Kodak EasyShare C195 – The inexpensive EasyShare C195 includes 14.1 megapixels of resolution, a 5X optical zoom lens, or try ” https://www.cineultima.com/”
Answer by ToriLook on craigslist.com and get a used Canon rebel. You can usually get a pretty good deal on one and can always upgrade in the future. Good luck!Answer by John S
That depends on whether you want a professional slr camera with interchangeable lens or not. This is the best way to go for learning and creativity, but it is also bulky to carry around. If not a slr, you at least want a camera with controls for aperture and shutter speed, and a decent lens.
Ive owned 12 or more digital cameras, all different brands and the ones i like the best are Canon. The price range you mention is fine to get a good camera. If you go for the slr, check out the Canon XS, if you want creativity in a one piece camera, check the Canon G12.
The advantages of the SLR are many. You can get several lens including wide angle, zoom, etc. for experimentation. You have more control over the settings for depth of field and speed. The two most important controls for creativity is aperture and shutter, so whatever camera you choose, you want to be able to control these.
Good luck
