We need to build an office and a house on our property. What needs to be done so they are considered one house? We are only allowed one dwelling on this property, so what can we do to make it so the office and house are considered one place?

Build one home, then divide it into a home and office. All it takes is building an interior wall. With regulations such as one dwelling per lot, you had best make sure first that it’s even legal to run a business from that location.

Making it a separate building is going to make it more complicated and expensive. you will have to go the the town and make sure that the property is zoned for a residential / business. you will probably have to get a lawyer and have a hearing at ask for a exception.
Then you will have to have to blueprints submitted to the town with all the lasted office code requirements.

To avoid this make them one building or build the office as a shed then after the inspectors are done coming to the property finish the shed into an office.
