kissy: What is a good gift to give a less fortunate child?
I am godmother to a child who is quite poor, she is 4 years old, it was her birthday recently. I’d like to get her a gift that she can somehow share with her 3 other sisters. I often give her milk, snacks for her to take to school, i also look for nice used clothes for her but what would be a special gift she and her sisters can play with? Any ideas? Specific please.
oldest sister is around 10 years old. next is is around 6. the youngest is just 4 months. dad doesn’t support them at all anymore. i’m talking dirt poor. when they run out of formula, the mom sometimes gives them sugar water. no dvd player or anything for watching movies. we godparents donate money to help with tuition fees. tuition is ridiculously cheap here by most countries’ standards…US20 a year, which is already a lot for them. by the way this is in the philippines so no such thing as government support in terms of a monthly check.

Board games. Puzzles. Art supplies like crayons and some paper.
If she knows how to read I think a book would be the perfect gift. I think the more you learn the biggest you get. This will help her a lot in her future and her sisters. At that age, there’s a lot of didactic books that can both teach and make them have fun as artisitic or handcrafts books.
Hope this help.
Answer by Nat AttackI think you should give her a locket or a necklace that she can wear everyday. If she shares the gift with her sisters it won’t be as special.Answer by AnArdRi

I can think of two ideas;
The first is a box filled with art supplies ~ crayons, construction paper, coloring books, glue sticks, that sort of thing.
An other idea is to fill up an old suitcase with dress up clothes of all sizes that she and her sisters could play with….thrift stores are great places to look for costumes, accessories, and even the suitcase! Be sure you add some wigs, tiaras, and costume jewelry. If you are crafty, maybe you could make some of these accessories yourself.

I really like the idea of filling a box or a basket with things from the dollar store, coloring supplies, summer toys, bubbles, snacks, or maybe a movie basket with a movie she likes microwave popcorn..ect.If they have a vcr or dvd player, this would be used on a daily basis, kids love movies. there are many things you can put together rather inexpensivly. Have fun with it and she will be so happy with whatever you decide. I am sure it will bring a huge smile on her face.Answer by jack russell girl
The gift of your time would be fun. Take her and her sisters to a restaurant that they might not otherwise go to and then stop by a dollar store and pick up some bath items such as cute soap, bubble bath and bath toys. It sounds like you take wonderful care of her all ready and you are very thoughtful in including her sisters. You might also try to take them to have their picture taken. If they are poor, chances are that they have never had a family portrait taken.
Other items can include chalk, bubbles, playdough, balls and jump ropes.
