Mel Liz: What is a good cross-training sport when you are a competitive swimmer?
I have a 2 week break from swimming and do not want to get out of shape. What is a good sport/exercise to do to keep in shape?

Me too i’m 10 and i have gone too state 3 times. when we have a 3 week break my mom takes me to a different pool to exercise for my normal practice time. (1 hour) i think that doing body building would help A LOT! i do and that is why i have gone to state and next sectionals!!! BTW GOOD LUCK AT SWIMMING!!!
VVV I have swam for 8 years on the cometitive level and have gone to hs. states sections.. and usa sectionals and nationals.. ik you want to stay in shape but breaks are to give your body a much need rest.. itll take 3 days approx. to get back in shape from the break so you should relax and drink loads of water like 8 bottles or more a day. if you really want to do something to stay in a little shape try fun things. I like running and hiking with my friends for like and hour or try kayacking or crew. Basically go outside and have fun, don’t sit on the coutch eat healthy…. you wont burn as many calories so you want to stay the same weight.. weigh yourself before and after… and drink tonsAnswer by Anne
Running is great, but it is really common for swimmers to not be fantastic runners. The reason for this (in most cases) is the fact that we constantly train our bodies to have hydrodynamic properties for obvious reasons- speed, technique, etc. I find that (if you have the balance for it…) biking, especially uphill creates the resistance we are used to but also has the cross training we need. You can also get more stroke-specific by lifting weights- “lightly”. Really focus on what you eat, and drink PLENTY of water. Hope this helps!!
