Poker Renegade: What is a complex physics experiment involving black and white photography?
By complicated, I mean grade 11 level that can be completed over 1 week max; doesnt have to be that long. Any suggestions would be welcome. I just any kind of physics experiment that is related to photography such as light intensity vs distance, etc.

try solargraphy. tracking the path of the sun using a pinhole camera. pretty cool process.
An area that I find challenging is the many concepts that surround depth of field. These will not be specific to B&W photography, but can be explored in B&W if you like.
Here are some ideas to explore:
1) In any photograph, there is a point of precise focus. Depth of field extends the range of distance that is perceived as being in focus by some distance in front of the point of precise focus and some distance beyond. It does not do that distribution evenly – it is either 1/3 in front, 2/3 in back, or vice versa.
So, you could verify the theory, then look for an explanation.
2) For a focal point a fixed distance away, at a given f-stop, is the depth of field the same when using a wide angle lens as it is when using a telephoto?
3) There is a concept known as the hyperfocal distance. Check that out on wikipedia, then find that distance for one of your camera lenses. Explain why it works. Is it independent of f-stop?
4) Explore how effectively depth of field holds up as you enlarge images.
I’d love to hear what experiments you finally try, as well as the results. If you tackled some of the above, I’d like to learn from what you did, and would be happy to post your results on my website for improving digital photography (check out my profile if you are interested).
Cheers,
Ted

Yup, time to do homework..
Aim your camera at POLARIS and catch the turning of the earth.
Do multiple exposures of the moon moving thru a grove of trees with each shot many minutes apart.. again, showing the turning of the earth.
Do a black guy, or gal.. against a white wall, but have detail in BOTH..!

Lightning strikes, but most storms are over now..
Take photographs in a white room showing the tonal value of white when it has less and less light or the angles to the light are different.
Example – – but please, pick your own..
