dross: What hotel should I stay at in Las Vegas the venetian or other?
I need to go to Las Vegas in December for a conference held at the venetian hotel. My main concern is the price of the hotel. I would like some recommendations on other places to stay close by or if I should just stay at the venetian.

I always like to stay in the hotel where the conference is being held, but if cost is a concern, perhaps research some hotels off the main strip and take a taxi to the sessions…probably much cheaper in the long run.
I like the Bellagio much better than the Venetian, but there again, the price is in the same ballpark, but perhaps it doesn’t serve your needs.
Answer by icemanWell your conference may get a special rate. So before you worry about it too much, just see what the actually is. Also, rates can be very low in december, as long as its not between xmas and new years.
But if you are interested in other hotels in the area that are cheaper. Look into Ballys, The Flamingo or Harrahs. The Riviera is a little up the road, but its very cheap also.
Answer by Summerbreeze63You guys should be getting a group rate so I would check in on that.Answer by Paulie
I agree 100% with Terp as to staying at the Venetian for your conference, and also agree that the Bellagio is a much more individually focused property for its size and I enjoy the fact that they know me when I arrive (we visit 5 or 6 times a year). Its about a good 1/2 mile walk between the two hotels, but walking is not boring. Cheaper hotels in the area include the Flamingo Hilton, Bally’s, Paris and Harrah’s. But, for the money, try to stay at the Venetian.
Have fun with your planning…
Answer by Jacob WThe Venetian is a beauty all right. No rooms! Only suites!
It is pricey and there are less expensive places to stay such as Harrah’s or the Flamingo. The only one I do not recommend is the Imperial Palace. It is pretty tired.
But if it is in your budget you will love the Venetian.

You can check the price for Mirage, it’s cheaper then the Venetian, and it’s just across the street, so it’s not that far away.Answer by Brittni
I went to Vegas in Feb and stayed at Treasure Island. The casino is a little old but the rooms are fantastic! We were upgraded to a Mini Suite because they were out of non-smoking kings. Last weekend I went back and stayed at the Mirage. It was very nice too but I liked the rooms better at Treasure Island (and they are cheaper too!) Just sign up for the email list to one of the hotels and you will get emails about special promotions (they are owned by the same company so you can choose which hotels to receive promotions from).Answer by banananose_89117
Usually when you go to a convention, the hotel gives you a special rate. And staying there you don’t have to worry about a cab or other scheduling issues. The Venetian is a fantatic place to stay.Answer by Question Guy

Definitely see what the rates are at the hotel. A lot of times the prices are cut in half, if not more. Add the current economy in, and you may be able to get the room for a steal. Also, it may include meals, etc that you would normally have to pay someplace else. However, if it’s still pricey, look at hotels near by. Some of the older hotels that are central strip (Bally’s, Mirage) or some near the end of the Strip (Circus Circus) would be far cheaper. Just keep in mind that if you stay elsewhere you have to plan for travel time and such.
We are staying downtown (fremont) when we go in May. It’s a little less crowded, much cheaper, and we tend to do better on the slots.
