that’s $ 1Bn question. Pharmaceutical companies would kill to know the answer.
So far there is some understanding of the hormones involved in the sexual part of the deal, but very little is known about chemical process in the brain, but it is said that eating chocolate does a similar thing.
So maybe you can eat less chocolate to concentrate on romance, and more chocolate to offset it 🙂

Falling in love does not have a precise chemical sequence associated with it as “falling in love” has no one definition and is different for everyone.
In general the neurotransmitter serotonin is responsible for producing feelings of ecstasy and can be increased by a host of legal and illegal medications (such as Prozac and Zoloft), chocolate, carbohydrate rich meals and exercise. There is no way to prevent the production or release of serotonin that I am aware of although a lack of serotonin has been linked to depression and schizophrenia.
Answer by ColsYour body produces phenylethylamine, which is a form of dopamine, which produces a feeling of euphoria. There is phenylethylamine in chocolate as well, which is why eating chocolate can also make you feel happy.
You can’t prevent it or make it more acute, and no one actually knows WHY a certain person can make it happen. Sorry.
Answer by dreamcatweaverWouldn’t everyone love to have a love potion? Sadly, while phermones have been touted as “wow” things, they, but only if they are produced by actual people. So no on all accounts here.Answer by Entropy
There is a very interesting behavioral model for that in voles that people are working on. One species of vole (I can’t remember their names anymore) are promiscuous and another very highly related species mates with one partner for life. The researches found the different species had different patterns of oxytocin production and receptors in the brain. When you activated oxytocin in the brains of slutty voles in a pattern that mimicked the faithful species, they become very monogomous and when you took it away in the faithful ones they turned into swingers.
It is clear that humans are not a purely monogamous species (95% of mammals aren’t, if I remember right) but some individuals are. Our most closely related species relative (the bonobo, or pigmy chimpanzee) are very skanky indeed (read about sometime, it’s really hilarious). Human babies are competely helpless and it takes a lot of effort to rear one into a useful member of society. As a result, we are probably wired to form pair bonds just strong enough to stay together long enough to make sure the progeny of that union are going to make it. Sad but probably true.

Falling in love is the process of seeing a girls
boobies. To prevent it from happening to you,
try to not look. For a more acute falling in love
