: What happened to weekday cartoon blocks on basic channels?
I didn’t grow up with cable television throughout the whole 90s. I remember tuning into Fox Kids, Kids WB, UPN, and other non-cable channels for my afternoon fix of cartoons and kids programming. For years I’ve noticed that there aren’t any of these programs anymore, and in a boring night, it came to my concern lol. I was just wondering what were the reasons for these huge networks to pull off weekday cartoon blocks?

You need cable or a dish to get the Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.
Well, as more people get cable and Disney is no longer a special pay channel there was more of a drain on the afternoon shows. Some shows, like judge shows, seem to be a little cheaper to make. So most channels decided they couldn’t compete with cable cartoons and stopped. Same reason they stopped doing weekend cartoon blocks, they couldn’t compete with Disney or Cartoon NetworkAnswer by wolf-359
The answer is very, very, simple. Kids don’t buy squat. Local channels make their money from ad revenue(as do most cable channels) and cartoons were primarily viewed by children and children don’t need lawyers,or buy cars,or buy insurance,etc.,etc. and so on.
Sadly they realized that adult oriented programming got more eyes that were attached to $ $ $ .
I recall the days prior to cable when there were locally produced kid shows that ran cartoons in the mornings and the afternoons. There were some fun shows back then.
