For 30 years Mubarak has maintained an uneasy but workable peace between Israel and the surrounding Arabic nations. This peace is now endangered! What you have to understand about the whole middle east is that every Arabic country has it’s population divided between Shia/Shiite and Sunni Moslems, and Coptic (early orthodox) Christians. To maintain stability Arab countries need to have a very strong, and sometimes brutal, leadership. Basically you have to stop Shia and Sunni from slaughtering each other and also from killing off all of the Copts. The classic example of what happens when a strong leader is removed from power is Iraq! Iraq is now virtually in a state of civil war thanks to our intervention, and imposition of “democracy”. It is very likely that the whole stability of the region will fail unless a military controlled and very gradual change of political philosophy is instigated in Egypt.
The effect on politics that the Egyptian Riots have had is to push up oil prices and scare the shit out of every country that have any investments in the whole Arab region!
Your Teacher may not agree with this viewpoint but I am living in this region.. Have fun!
