: What effects does losing your mom have on an 18 year old girl?
I just lost my mom after a two year struggle with stage four colon cancer. She got really sick towards the end and it was horrible. She was my best friend and I really miss her.I was wondering what the long and short term effects are.

Grief a period of adjustment and perhaps

Answer by MeAgainYou are going through one of the hardest times of your life right now. I lost a parent to cancer when I was 17. The short term effects are profound sadness, anger, disbelief. Don’t be shocked if at some point you feel angry at your mom for leaving you, it’s a normal feeling. Your grief will come and go at different times. You might be doing fine and then all of a sudden you feel the same as you did the day she died. It’s a pain we learn to live with.
The long term effect, is you will always have a feeling of something missing in your life. In time it will lessen and you will learn how to live with the feeling. Your mom will forever be with you in your memories.
The truth is time, does heal and the horrible pain you feel now will not last forever. You will remember the things your mother taught you and when the happy days in your life come you will remember her then too. You will be alright. This does make you a stronger person in the long run. I wish I had the words to comfort you at this time but, there really isn’t anything someone can say to ease your pain.
