Nai: What effect does unknown history have on people today?
I have always been taught. If you don’t know where you came from you can’t know where your going.
As Black people in America, our history is lost. As far as our ancestors and family structure due to slavery. And what is taught in schools of our past is in passing and highly inaccurate.
how can we hope to uplift the race without the sense of history of so many other cultures in the US?
sure….
lets concentrate on grammer, and not the larger issue at hand.
yep, grammer is what’s important here.lol

Slavery, unfortunately, is history.
I beg to differ with you Nai.
Look at how far Alex Haley went back with Roots.
You must remember that Blacks were enslaved in America, but before the people of this world suffered from slavery as early as man lived. Remember the Romans, the Jews, the Egyptians…..
People survive, prosper and lift themselves up.
Answer by bsweet582The Jews were not enslaved, that was genocide! The Romans, like the Greeks, are regarded as classics in most historical literature. However, not once in history has there ever been such an event where people were bought, sold and their ENTIRE history erased from their memories. Do you understand that blacks were killed if they were caught speaking their native language? Killed for trying to learn how to read?! WTF is that?Answer by samhillesq
A real man/woman would not worry about such trivial things, there are bigger issues in history that you should know besides where you come from! If you want to know anything you must research it and not take the easy way out by simply asking a question here and there. I only worry about a civil war again! That and the value of the dollar dropping like a rock! Everything else is moot!Answer by Hermes711
I don’t think history plays a big role in our society. Not that what has happened doesn’t matter, but that learning history can’t do more than winning a couple bucks on Jeopardy.
As for schools, yeah, the education system is, how might one put it, “whack.” But hopefully after Bush is out of office this will all change. As for uplifting a race, Black people have MLKJr, and… other people…
Actually I get your point, where are the heroes? Rosa Parks was a good symbol, but does it stop there? White people depict Malcom X as some crazy dude, and… well that’s all the examples of I know of, I don’t know that much about black people except what I see in the movies (which very well may be WHY Blacks are viewed as they are)
I say take it up with the media.

not having any history leaves you with a sense of loss, the need for an identity that has been lost centuries ago,its terrible but unfortunately that is just one the many legacies left to us by “you know who” (if i say the name of the race they will all accuse me of reverse racism”
