Abby: What dog breeds make up a miniature pincher?
My mom and I were talking about our dog, which a miniature pincher, and she told me that they are made up of 5 different dog breeds. Is this true? If so, what dog breeds is it mixed with?

The Miniature Pinscher is a purebreed, so it is not a mix of breeds. When it was being developed in the 1800s, however, various terriers, Dachshunds, German Pinschers and various other breeds were used.
I was just reading about the breed. One interesting fact is that the mini was around way before a regular Doberman Pincher! Interesting, huh? I’d google the breed or ask a breeder (check your classifieds). I do know the breed is VERY hyper and hard to train. They are cute and it’s cool how they look like little mini Dobermans though.Answer by Alyssa
Purebred dogs originated from blending different bloodlines, however, they are not “made up” of different breeds in the sense that you cannot breed 5 dogs together and get a Min Pin. It is a purebred dog, and the past hundred generations have been purebred Min Pins.
Dachshunds and Italian Greyhounds are believed to have contributed to the original bloodlines. No other breeds are recorded as having been included.
They are NOT related to Dobermans, contrary to popular belief. Pinscher means “biter” in German and is a surname given to many of their breeds, including the Affenpinscher, German Pinscher, Doberman Pinscher, and Miniature Pinscher. Each breed is unrelated, much the way we use “terrier” or “setter” to describe a dog’s purpose, they use Pinscher. The word “Miniature” is deceiving because they are a stand-alone breed and not a miniature version of any other breed.
