Mermaid: What does the bride wear to the reception?
What does a bride typically wear to the reception? I have a feeling my friend is going to change from a really cute white-lace spring dress that she is using as a wedding dress, into jeans and a tee shirt!

Every single wedding that I have ever been to the bride wore her wedding dress to the reception. Even my friends who got married in Jamaica and had a reception two weeks later.
Usually they were the wedding dress at the reception, but its her wedding. She can wear what she wants.Answer by Richard B
Usually the bride stays in her wedding togs, though I suppose there’s no reason why she can’t change into something a little more scruffy. Of course, the guests should also have that option.Answer by iloveweddings
I have NEVER seen the bride change outfits. You spend your time and money looking for “the dress” so wear it!!
I have never heard of a bride changing outfits….but there is always a first time! But jeans and a t-shirt? Is she serious? The guests will be more dressed up than the bride!

Most brides wear their dress. There are a few who like to buy a second wedding dress for the reception. But generally, they wear the some dress they wore for the ceremony. I’ve never seen anyone change.Answer by Mew Mew
it depends. i am having an outdoor reception later in the evening in october and it is a real dirt fest where we are having it so i am NOT wearing my dress. however we are having a small cocktail hour that i will be wearing it to right before we move locations.Answer by Dia M
Yes I agree! Wear the wedding dress all the way! UNLESS its like a big and poofy gown, got something really obvious spilt on it, or just too uncomfortable to wear the rest of the night, I don’t see why not maybe another simple white dress?Answer by bartliddy
There are some wedding dresses that can separate the gown to a really smart pretty dress for the reception and it is from the same dress.Answer by sarlee
I LOVE my dress, I am wearing it as long as my future husband lets me!Answer by rapidmind18
The new trend is to change from a formal dress to a less formal but still very much “bridal” dress wear. So while it is acceptable to change dresses the bride should still look like a bride.Answer by maigen_obx

I am getting married in a small church about 5 mins from my house and then having a small reception (about 20 people) at my house… It will be casual, with a dinner and mostly just conversation over dinner and perhaps even some wii playing after supper lol
so it did cross my mind that i would look and feel silly playing wii in a big poofy gown… So i plan to have a simple below the knee dress (not a wedding dress, more of a white cotton dress with a bit of lace and flowers on it), that will allow for comfort in a more casual ambience…
That being said, I came to that compromise to avoid having a fancy dress and then changing into jeans and a tshirt at home lol
again though, her day = her rules hehe
Answer by SirenSongThe bride wears the same outfit she wore to the ceremony. Most brides don’t have seperate reception dresses, considering how much the dress typically costs so they want to wear it as long as they can since they won’t get another opportunity.
People talk about how popular it is for the bride to change into another outfit and how everyone and their cousin does it, but I have attended many weddings and have never once seen this done.
Answer by gramof6WEll if it is in the pasture guess she could do that. Most brides wear their gown or dress to the reception. Some people have no class.
