Annie_orphan: What does the ballet costume consist of?
I’m just starting ballet in september, and I know the costume is a black leotard and tights (Usually) and of course ballet shoes (Un pointed for beginners like myself) but is there anything else to it? Thanks.

For practices usually people wear tights, leotards, shorts or skirt sometimes, and ballet shoes.
For competitions, shows, and recitals you wear different costumes.

At my dance academy you need to wear…
1) Black leotard
2) Pink tights
3) Pink ballet shoes
4) Pink ballet skirt
So really, it depends on the studio/school/academy, but you may need a ballet skirt. Hope I helped!Answer by cassiak812
I wouldn’t say that there is one standard ballet costume. Now, for you class you may have to wear the same thing as everyone else. Yes, black leotard and pink tights are what you will probably wear to class. A costume, on the other hand, could be very extravagant. A few years ago, we had these beautiful purple masquerade costumes. Another year we had classic black tutus, black stirrup tights, and everyone got to wear a different color neon leotard. So your “costume” isn’t allways the same!Answer by Mishy Luver
I have to wear my dance schools leaotard, pink leather ballet shoes, pink satin pointe shoes (don’t buy these, your teacher will tell u when to), and pink stocking, with my hair in a bun.
