FelicityFrachesca: What did they do for entertainment in Spain during the interwar years?
i’m doing a world history project. i have to write a newspaper article about entertainment. can you give me some things they did, or some websites that will tell me? thanks

They had all the usual European entertainments: music, theatre, cinema and sport. Football was beginning to gain a mass following, as was cycle racing. Bullfighting was (and still is) a major spectator event. As a Catholic country they had the usual fiestas on saints’ days and other major religious holidays, and of course carnivals (typically centred around dancing and music) at the start of Lent.
From 1936 – 39 they were too busy killing one another for entertainment to be on top of anyone’s mind, and it took a while after the war for them to recover enough money and leisure for the entertainment industry to get itself together again..
